It has been five months since the night when Konstantina Kouneva was splashed with vitriol in an attempt to be murdered and until today, there has been no progress in the police investigation about finding the criminals.

Yesterday, Kouneva’s lawyers Kostas Papadakis and Daphne Vayanou filed a complaint for a second time for the last two months, against the long delay of the police investigation and the questioning procedure of the witnesses. As a result of the slow progress, the case has stopped, the criminals are out and free and the cleaning ladies working in the metro stations and who are members of the Cleaners and House Maids Syndicate are being followed by unknown individuals and have been receiving anonymous threats over the phone.

Lawyer Kostas Papadakis noted that he found out yesterday that Konstantina’s case is no longer in the hands of the chief investigator Eleftherios Georgilis. This has happened after the 48 year old Albanian was arrested in February, because he had asked for his driver’s license to be returned. As a result, the case is in the prosecutor’s office and according to the law, all questionings should be frozen until the case goes back to the hands of the chief investigator.

Lawyer Daphne Vayanou expressed her believe that there is enough evidence, which can be used for the case but despite this no one has done anything. Also, she asks for the reason why was Konstantina Kouneva questioned on December 23rd, when her health was in severe condition and now when she can communicate, no one cares to question her.

“A better investigator’s job must be done. We need to recognize the fact that this case has gained a symbolic meaning for the whole society. This cannot and should not be underestimated,” stressed Vayanou.

Dr. Savas Mihail said that Kouneva’s condition has improved but still, not all dangers have passed. The syndicate member will have to undergo a series of facial plastic surgeries and a manipulation on the right eye.
