On June 7, 9 866 913 Greeks will vote for their 22 representatives for the European Parliament, announced the Ministry of interior. A week before the elections several statistical surveys show a considerable decline in the leadership of the opposing socialists PASOK. They have the advantage of 2.6-3.5%, thus falling into the margins of the statistical error defined by the sociologists to be 2.7%. Only a month ago, PASOK was holding the lead with a double-digit number. Next in the statistical surveys is the governing New Democracy, and the competition for the third place is very close between the ecologists and the communists.
According to Kapa Research, next Sunday PASOK will gain 31.7% and New Democracy- 28.7%. The survey claims the third place for the Communistic party of Greece with 7.4% and fourth for the ecologists with 6.8%. in other surveys communists and ecologists switch places. Kapa Research puts the Coalition of the radical lefts on fifth position with 5.2% and with 4.5% the sixth place is for the radical-left LAOS. The total number of Greek parties participating in the European parliament elections is 27.
Kostas Karamanlis is better fit for prime-minister according to 38.3% and only 21.3% prefer the socialist leader Georgios Papandreou. The research predicts high participation in the Sunday elections- above 68.3%. 48.6% believe that of a greatest importance is the economic crisis and 35.3% believe it is the scandals.
As we already informed you, the electorate within Greece consists of 9 866 913 voters. Another 110 562 young Greeks will vote for the first time. One day earlier, on June 6, 36 758 Greeks that work or study abroad will give their votes. 6 530 are the European citizens registered to vote in the Greek European Parliament elections.
