With the goals of Karagounis in the 30th minute from a penalty kick and of Roukavina in the 36th minute, Panathinaikos grabbed the victory from AEK’s hands on the Olympic Stadium in Athens. Both teams started the game with an excellent play and managed to create few dangerous situations in front of both gates in the first minutes of the game. During the 11th minute, after a two meter kick away from the goal line Tzimpour sent the ball to the cross-bar!
After the first half, Panathinaikos showed superiority, which continued until the end of the game.
This victory ensured Panathinaikos’ first place on the play-offs. The green ones automatically enter the third preliminary round of the Champions League, where the champion Olympiakos has already taken its place. In the next round, both teams will have to win against two consecutive opponents, in order to become leaders of the groups.
Theoretically speaking, Olympiakos’ task is easier, because the groups it will play against have a lower rating and which are coming from countries with weaker championships (information based on a special UEFA qualification).
