Different types of discounts were prepared by hotel owners, in order to attract tourists and to try to lower losses. Many of them include free nights for children and interesting half board offers.

The Cretan Hotel Owners Union proposed to its members to make offers, which will be valid until the end of July and will give out a free night when a person books nine. Similar offers for certain periods will be put together by the Hotel Owners Union in Magnisia region and on Rhodes, hotel owners decided to lower prices with 20%.

Except for attractive offers, an advertising campaign was launched, which urges people to spend their vacation in Greece and this time it targets local audiences. This campaign is also by the Greek National Tourism Organization but it is separate from the one, which tries to attract foreign visits. The main slogan of the local campaign is “Living in Greece” and different tourist agents have thought of slogans like “It’s certain you have dreamt of Halkidiki,” “Experience Lefkada,” “This year we will spoil you in Rhodes,” “Kos – island – dream.”

In Athens hotel owners are counting on events, which will attract new visitors. Their main goal is to make the city hospitable, after its image was completely destroyed after the riots last year in December. One example is the opening of the new Acropolis Museum next Saturday. The event gained international popularity and hotel owners expect an increase in the foreign visits.

Another event, which gives hopes for bringing Athens back to life is the 2 500 anniversary of the Marathon battle, where Greeks won against the Persians. It is not by accident that the 18th International Congress of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distant Races) will take place in Athens between the 28th and 30th of October, 2010 and the 28th marathon is scheduled for October 31st. a positive effect on Greece had the Hollywood production My Life in Ruins – a movie directed by the Greek American Nia Vardalos.

The advertising campaign of the Greek National Tourism Organization targeting foreign audiences has kept its slogan - “The True Experience” but together with the new logo “Greece. 5000 years old.” comes also “Greece – a masterpiece you can afford.” The main goal of the campaign is last minute reservations, which will be for Greece and will be more than the ones in previous years.
