The test results of two Greek heavy weight lifters for illegal substances came out positive. The test was done on June 1st, during the team’s practice in Cyprus for the Mediterranean Games in Peskara.
The chairman of the Greek Heavy Weight Lifting Federation, Piros Dimas made the following statement:
“At 08:05PM today, one hour after the end of the competition, we were informed by E.S.KA.N (national anti-doping council) that two of the tests done on June 1st—thirty days before the team’s practice in Cyprus, were positive.”
It is expected that later on today, the Greek Heavy Weight Lifting Federation will make a statement, because it is endangered of being suspended by the International Heavy Weight Lifting Federation due to too many doping scandals.
Later on, it became clear that the “positive” players are Nikos Kourtidis and Konstantina Lapou.
We need to remind you that both players already won medals on the Mediterranean Games in Peskara. Kourtidis won two gold medals and Lapou took a silver one.
