According to the Americans, Samaras is a conservative politician with nationalist views, although according to a diplomatic source, "this image needs to be renewed." Samaras is against Kofi Annan’s plan, but Obama wants to know his opinion about the resumption of negotiations, which are scheduled for October.
Samaras has a unique opportunity to present his ideas personally without fear. He should provide a programme for the economy, with which to win over the Americans, as well as a plan regarding the energy sector, since he cannot present anything regarding other matters because of the disastrous economic situation of the country.

On the subject of Macedonia, the Americans are "for" a solution to the issue with the name, so that the Euro-Atlantic path of the country can continue. They also know the opinion of the government in Skopje. However, bearing in mind the lack of interest of the Americans in the Balkans, considerable pressure cannot be exerted.
