With score of 2-1 ended the game from the second playoffs round between football teams AEK and Olympiacos, which played at Karaiskaki Stadium in Athens.
Like always the meeting between the two teams brought strong emotions to sports fans. Both teams were eager to win. AEK was trying to score goals in order to qualify for the next round and Olympiacos in order to rank first in the playoffs. After losing the match with Aris, victory for the white-reds last night was the number one goal.
The hosts started the game dynamically. They had good passes and generally controlled the ball. The white-red scores their first goal in the 10th minute – head hit by Mellberg. Following were several attempts by the guests to score but without success. The answer of the yellow-blacks came during the 22nd minute when Djebbour scored in Nikopolidis’ door and thus equalized the score. From this moment on the tension in the stadium rose. The hosts were trying at all costs to take the lead again. In the 32nd minute Zewlakow tried to score, but the ball hit the crossbar. Minutes later he tried again and again, but the ball either hit the crossbar or went outside the field. After the 35th minute of the game the rhythm slowed down. Players could not stand the pace. During the 43rd minute the guests allowed Enzo Mareska to get too close to the door and he used the opportunity making the result 2:1.
The second half began with more dynamic play by the hosts. LuaLua made several goal attempts. Although the player had a quick and strong kick, the ball flew out the door. First attempt of the black-yellows to score during the second half was in the 14th minute when Manolas kicked the ball towards Nikopolidis’ door. Nice try for goal also made Nemeth in the 18th minute. During the 22nd minute Kafes tried to score too. He hit the ball with his head but Nikopolidis saved it. This was the moment when AEK found itself closer to victory. In the 24th minute Nemeth made another attempt to score, but the ball hit the crossbar.
After the attacks in front of the white-reds’ door, the target moved in front of Saja’s door. During the 32nd minute LuaLua made another attempt to score but the ball went straight to the goalkeeper’s feet. Minutes later Oscar attacked the door of the guests, but the ball hit the crossbar.
