The match between the basketball teams of Olympiacos and Charleroi played on the field in Piraeus finished 86-78. Although the white-reds were far from showing their full potential they won and kept their top position in the group. Nesterovic and Spanoulis played very well last night. 10 minutes before the end of the game, almost by tradition, the guard bore the team on his shoulders and together with Teodosic put an end to the Belgians’ dreams to turn the result.

The home team had a slight lead in the beginning of the game. Nestorovic brought 6 points to the team and so it took the lead with 8-6. Then Spanoulis scored and Olympiacos began to gain greater advantage. This continued until the Belgians were not awakened. They broke the defence of the home team and made a very successful series of 0-8. Master of the scores was the player Hill. The first part ended with 23-16.

During the second game Olympiacos made many mistakes. The difference in the outcome even dropped dramatically to 5 points for a while. The fast decline definitely startled the home team and it proceeded with a series of new attacks. It succeeded to increase the difference in the score to 9 points, difficult though. Gomis surprised the home team badly, however, and decreased the difference to 6 points. Then Lucas scored and the result was 39-29. The game ended with 42-33.

The third game began with the visiting team scoring. The home team put down Charleroi with fast scores and the strong presence of Spanoulis. They led 59-43 within minutes. Wright and Hill, however, again pulled down the difference below 20 points. Nielsen’s scores cheered Olympiacos and the team seriously advanced again with 64-50. This was when the visiting team realized that it was impossible for it to win on the field in Piraeus.

However, they fought to the end. The scores of Hill, Broyles and Greene led to a one-digit difference. But the dreams ended there. Ioannis Bourousis run wild on the field and through great shooting crashed the last hope of the visiting team to win. Teodosic and Spanoulis also reminded for themselves and Olympiacos managed to retain its top position in the group although it didn’t play very well.
