With a score of 9-6 finished the game in water polo from the A1 between the male teams of Olympiakos and Voulyagmeni which was played in the pool in Piraeus. The white and reds made a step towards the finals of the A1, but the team of Voulyagmeni definitely made it difficult for them. The guests were a worthy opponent to the constant champions of the country.

The meeting began with an equal battle. Voulyagmeni had a very good attack and strong defense which the hosts had hard time breaking. If they were doing so, the guests were not staying behind and were answering them with the same. So even during the first eight minutes the match turned into a real derby. Olympiakos failed to get the better of the opponent. Minutes ended with 2-2 and a reson for thought during the break...

The hosts started the second series with more enthusiasm. They proceeded with more effective attacks, which due to errors in the defense of Voulyagmeni they managed to complete. The white and reds found their rhythm and took the lead albeit only by one point. Minutes ended with 2-1.

The next eight minutes did not bring significant benefit to Olympiakos. There it again led by 1 point, which is an evidence that both teams are almost equal opponents. As much as this did not appeal to the coach Vangelis Pateros his team could not “get into its stride” in the pool. This minor advantage with which players were moving did not give them a special advantage. It made them play tense and nervous. At times even chaotic.

The last eight minutes proved to be decisive for Olympiakos. Manolis Milonakis was the player whose goal brought in the necessary lead and... the final victory.

The teams will meet again on Monday in the pool in Lemos.
