The game from the Euro league between the basketball teams of Olympiakos and Khimki (Moscow), played in the SEF hall in Athens ended with a final score of 87:69. The victory of the red and white team put them in first place in the eight round of the Top 16 of the Euro league. In spite of their victory however they could not enchant their fans with a flawless and dynamic game. This evening Olympiakos showed a satisfying game, but not really strong one – the team wasn’t in their usual shape. Even their player Childress did not show all of his technical capabilities and furthermore he made several unsuccessful attempts to score in important moments of the game and lost chances to score points.
The game started with the lead of the hosts and several mistakes on the part of the guests. After they managed to initially take the lead the white and red team calmed down and it seemed like they didn’t fight enough in order to finish their attacks and in this way were losing chances to score points. Later some problems in the defense of the team appeared… The guests did not remain indifferent to the weaknesses of their opponent and immediately started to score points. There were moments when they were very close to evening the score. The player Carlos Cabezas had several good passes. The first half ended with a score of 38:28.
The second half started with a good attack on the part of Khimki, two unsuccessful attempts of Childress to score and the dissatisfaction of the audience gathered in the hall. The guests managed to score some points with the help of Cabezas and the two points scored in a row by Jankunas and at that time the score from 46:40 reached the dangerous 48:44. This turning point in the result woke up the hosts and like with some miracle they managed to gain the partially lost lead. With the help of the players Mavrokefalides and Vujčić the white and red team managed to take the lead against the team of Khimki by almost 20 points.
