The game between the male water polo teams of Olympiakos and Partizan Belgrade, which was played as part of the third round of the Euroleague in Piraeus, ended with 9:10.

The hosts showed a good game with a strong desire to win, but with errors and poor defense. The team failed to remain concentrated and focused until the end of the game, although certainly it had rhythm and drive. The white-reds did not have many good chances for to score. Partizan, in turn, showed a very good, well coordinated game. Very high level game, with well coordinated feeds.

During the first minutes the hosts took the lead in seemingly an easy game. However, the minutes of the second period proved decisive, when the visitors discovered weaknesses in the defense of Olympiakos. They proceeded with strong and effective attacks and started leading with 2-5. During the third period the hosts strengthened their defense, but failed to organize effective attacks and to realize a good goal opportunities. Thus the period ended with 2-1. The last minutes of the game were filled with much tension and fighting for points by the white-reds. The player on the white-reds Afroudakis managed to bring the result to 9-9, but the Serb Prlyanovich showed his final word and scored the decisive goal for the game.

(One reason for the loss of the white-reds was that, due to cancellations of the judges, they often played with one player less).

The loss against Partizan is the third in line loss for the white-red team. In order to qualify for the Euroleague’s Eight roung of the water polo the team will have to win the upcoming game against the team of Budva. The meeting between the two teams will be held on February 13 in Montenegro.
