The rescue teams have found the body of one of the two men who had disappeared during the storm in Rhodes last Friday. He is the 67-year-old man, whose wife died in the floods that swept away the northern part of the island and killed another person, namely a 27-year-old teacher. Her family insists that the competent authorities should explain the lack of infrastructure that had caused the tragedy.

On Monday, the prosecutor on the island ordered an urgent investigation of the reasons that had caused the death of three people as well as considerable damage.

The English teacher, aged 53, is still missing. He was swept away by the strong water flow when he got out of his car in order to save himself.

The estimates have so far shown that the damage due to the floods last Friday amounts to over 10 million euro. The flood has completely destroyed 30 houses, and has seriously damaged 300 houses and 100 companies in Ialissos alone.

"Within three hours, 80 tons of water poured down per acre," states professor of geology and head of the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure Efthimios Lekas, who is currently in Rhodes, taking part in the meetings of the local authorities. He said that a decision to build a bridge on the site of the tragedy had been taken 10 years earlier, the money had been granted but the construction works had not started since environmental organisations had filed claims against the construction of the facility.

At the same time, the local authorities in Rhodes are making every effort to prepare for the further weather deterioration expected today in the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.

The meteorologists forecast that weather conditions throughout Greece will further deteriorate in the coming hours and that torrential rains will pour down today in the regions around the Ionian Sea, the areas of Epirus, the western part of central Greece, in the western and southern Peloponnese and in the region of Thrace.

The weather forecasts show that temperatures in the northern part of the country will begin falling and that it will start snowing in the high places in northern and central Greece. Temperatures on Wednesday will continue falling.
