The friendly match between the teams of PAOK and Fenerbahce, played on Tumba stadium in Thessaloniki, finished 1:0 for the hosts. The victory over the Turkish team was number one goal of the Greek team and their coach Pavlos Dermidzakis strictly required it. The Portuguese Vieirinha realized the task in the 19th minute. With the tonight outcome PAOK won the lead in the fight for classification in the Europa League groups.
The first half started with strong play of the hosts. They were highly motivated and persistently pursued goal positions. They tried to block the opponent with a quick goal and put it at a disadvantage to lag behind in the outcome from the outset of the match. So, they pressed Fenerbahche players in the first minutes. At the same time, they showed a very good defense. They managed to block the actions of the Turkish players by taking the ball away at moments of potential chances of attack. The fast goal of PAOK was already a fact in the 19th minute. Vieirinha scored it and set the atmosphere at the stadium in Thessaloniki on fire.
PAOK had three good chances to score after the first goal. The first was of Vieirinha, the second of Salpigidis and the third of Muslimovic in the 45th minute. The good phase lasted until the end of the first half. PAOK had a very strong defence. Thanks to it the team did not leave empty space on the field and managed to make the actions of the Turkish team extremely difficult.
Тhe hosts were in a slightly weaker shape in the second half. The Turks certainly tried to use this fact. Fenerbahce won the ball and proceeded to attack. The player Vitolo left the game in the 57th minute because of the second red card and the game became more difficult to PAOK. It seemed for a moment that the Turks had real chances to score as the guests were those who ruled the ball. Nevertheless, they failed to break through the defence of PAOK.
Papazoglou missed a perfect chance to score in the 90th minute. Shortly after the guests tried to make the score even, but the goalkeeper Krešić saved the ball thus keeping the lead of PAOK.
