Poetry Week in Bacaro

So far the International Day of Poetry - traditionally celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox March 21 - was celebrated in Greece, with events on or around that date. For the first time this year organized is a Week of Poetry and lot for hosting the event falls on "Bacaro". Paternity of the idea belongs to the publisher of Poetry magazine (δε)κατα [(de)kata] Dinos Siotis, who sought the assistance of twelve publishing houses, two literary journals and two electronic journals, in order for them to recommend published authors who will read their poems. So for a week about 100 poets will "expose" perform their poems on the stage in "Bacaro", there will also be ten foreign poets, whose poetry has been translated in Greek. 

Among the poets, who will participat is also Bulgarian Yana Boukova, who for years has been living in Athens. Yana Boukova was born in Sofia in 1968. She has graduated from Sofia University K. Ohridski majoring in classical philology. From 1996 she has been living in Athens and between 1997 and 2000 she has taught Bulgarian language at the University of Crete (in Rethymno). 

Two of her poetry books have been published in Bulgaria - "Palaces of Diocletian" (1995) and "Boat in the eye" ("Stigmati Publishing House, 2000). In 2008 Yana Boukova published her first novel in Bulgaria - "Traveling in the direction of the shadow" ("Stigmati” Publishing House). Recently the same publishing house made available for Bulgarian readers the poetry of Sappho and Catullus, translated by Mrs. Boukova.

Tuesday March 16 – poets published by Publishing houses "Ikaros", "Kedros”, "Odos Panos", "Roes". Among the published works by "Ikaros" is Bulgarian poet Yana Boukova. The poetic voices of Leli Bay and Yannis Kalpouzos, will also be heard.
