You like your shiny pressure cooker that prepares lunch everyday so fast, right? Well, not only you.

A housewife from the ancient times took her favourite pot with her even in the afterlife. Thus, the first fully preserved "pressure cooker" aged 2700 years has got to us. It was found during the excavations in the cemetery near Aksiupouli to Kilkis and will be presented during the congress on the archaic era ceramics, which will start in Thessaloniki after two days.

The ancient brazier which is the ancient ancestor of modern pressure cookers was found by the archaeologist T. Savopoulou.

Five braziers were found during the excavations but only one of them could be assembled in its original form and preserved as the most complete example of this type of cookware. The brazier has a height of 38 cm, weighs 14 kg and it is believed that it would weigh 15 kg with the missing pieces, and its volume is about 20 l.

As the archaeologist T. Savopoulou explained to Ethnos newspaper, the brazier consists of "an inside in the form of an earthen jar with a small round base and an external coat with two rows of holes for ventilation is attached to its upper end."

According to her, the brazier from Aksiupouli contains all the technical knowledge of that era, and the skill of the craftsman who made it. The pot is related to the eating habits of the society which used it to prepare its food every day."

The congress on ceramics includes the archaic period in North Aegean and the surrounding area. It is organized by the History and Archaeology School at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Archaeological Institute of Macedonian and Thracian Studies at the Greek Ministry of Culture with the participation of 54 researchers from Greece and abroad. The Congress will present 42 original reports and findings from Bulgaria and Macedonia.
