The Greek government has imposed a ceiling on the prices of products offered to the visitors to organized beaches with an entrance ticket. The new regulation is in addition to the previous one, which imposed a ceiling on the prices of sandwiches and drinks offered by restaurants and shops at airports, ships, stadiums, archaeological sites, cinemas, theatres and other establishments to their customers.
The specific measure introduces price reductions of up to 30%, as follows: from 0.50 euro to 0.35 euro for a 500 ml of bottled water and from 0.70 euro to 0.50 euro for 750 ml. The price of a ham and cheese toasted sandwich will decrease from 1.80 euro to 1.35 euro, a ham and cheese sandwich from 1.70 euro to 1.35 euro, a toasted cheese sandwich from 1.60 euro to 1.15 euro and of a cheese sandwich from 1.50 euro to 1.15 euro. The price reduction of a single cup of filter coffee is from 1.60 euro to 1.20 euro, of espresso (hot or cold) from 1.70 euro to 1.35 euro, of instant coffee (hot or frappe) from 1.60 euro to 1.20 euro and a cup of tea (hot or cold) will cost 1.20 euro compared with the previous 1.60 euro.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Development, the establishments on organized beaches are required to offer on the menu the light meals and drinks mentioned previously and to sell them at the specified prices.
Offenders will be subject to strict penalties and solid fines as follows: 1,000 euro for the lack of a price list, 500 euro if they sell the specified goods at higher prices and 500 euro if they do not offer them to their customers. In the case of a repeated violation of the regulation, the fines are double.
The same decision introduces the following changes in the trade in various products:
- Bakery owners will be able to put in front of their shops tables at which their customers can consume bakery products and sandwiches. The decision also reminds them of the obligation to weigh the loaves of bread during sale.
- The owners of commercial sites are obliged to keep a book tracing the origin of vegetables in order to protect consumers.
- It provides for the labelling of Greek products in order to eliminate the obligation of those vendors who do not have the relevant signs.
- It provides for the use of symbols instead of words such as "leather" and "other materials" for leather products if the shop has a board that explains the signs.
- Flat owners are entitled to request copies of the invoices for the total cost of the residential buildings at their expense. Moreover, professional house managers are required to put copies of the invoices on the notice board, which must be locked and its front part transparent.
- It cancels the obligation of indicating the weight or quantity of portions on restaurant menus.
- It provides for procedures for fuel pumps sealing, control, etc.
- It introduces limits on the weight of the paper, bags, etc. for the packaging of products that the sellers weigh out in the presence of the customer.
