If we look through the National Classification of Occupations in Bulgaria, under the section "Personnel in public services" appears the profession Astrologer. For this class under which the occupation is classified it is specified that it requires knowledge and skills that correspond to the requirements for second educational and qualification level. In other words, it is necessary for person to have completed the 10th grade and a brief professional qualification. As a comparison I would say that in Bulgaria there are 9 educational levels. I am not aware where exactly among the professions in other countries are the astrologers, but I assume that the situation is hardly different.
Actually I would not call astrology a profession. This is a vocation. Professions as we know them are generally activities that are associated with "how to do something." Astrology does not fit into these frameworks. When analyzing the horoscope we do not give recipes we do not make plans and projects, nor do we produce something. Because the answer to the question "How to....?" is "You have to go through it".
Astrologers read the "book of life". This book is not subject to correction. And if you tear its pages or swap them this will not change the text. It is only to be read - whether you enjoy it or not, in this case is irrelevant. In one of my dusty books – an Indian treatise on astrology, written about 1500 years BC – there is a separate place in the beginning of the question of who can learn astrology, what qualifications he should have, how to approach the astrological analysis. I quote a part:
"Astrology is taught in three sections, three main areas - astronomy, astrological mathematics and analytical part.
....
The astrologer should always carefully consider the type, movements and actions of his client. Pay attention to all signs. To get to know the human nature.
......
The person who has some questions must present a gift to the astrologer and to refer the issue with respect. Only questions emerging from pure motives deserve an answer. One should not make a prediction to someone who has not asked for it, nor to a person who wants to test the astrologer. If the astrologer ignores this, he would not be able to reach the correct conclusion."

In India, only Brahmins had access to study astrology. Brahmins were the most esteemed class in society. This was the elite. Exactly the same happened in the Western world, particularly in Greece. To astrology have been attracted some of the most famous scholars in ancient Greece, who have presented and kept astrology in Europe. These are the people who have had some abilities and preferences in science and philosophy. An astrologer must have knowledge of philosophy, knowledge of the issue of what is life, spherical astronomy, mathematics, knowledge of nature and natural laws, innate intelligence and wisdom. These were people whose life was not secular. It was devoted to studying of physics, mathematics, philosophy, astronomy. Because without these sciences one can not reach the essence of astrology.

In practice astrology requires a serious devotion. I can make parallels with the scientists who for years have studied some Egyptian pyramid. They spend much of their life in exile. Just like Champollion, who devoted 16 years of hard work to decipher the Rosetta Stone. To achieve the ability to read a horoscope, an astrologer must spend years in studying philosophy, psychology, astronomy and astrology. Anyone able to imagine what kind of work this is, what it costs for a person to do it, would not think even for a moment to show contempt and disrespect. Especially in terms of the monetary reward for an analysis by an astrologer. I agree that there is much abuse by charlatans. But I will not comment on them.

In the Eastern world, unlike in the western, there is a totally different attitude to astrologers. There, nobody criticizes astrologers. Rather on the opposite – they treat them with particular respect and honor and consult an astrologer only at certain milestones. A man from the East rarely shows curiosity to get an analysis of his personal horoscope just for fun because he’s interested in it. This shows a deep-seated wisdom, that in order to look 'forward', you must be ready, to have a reason to do it and accept it humbly.

And look where we're standing in the West today - to be an astrologer you can only have graduated the tenth grade, plus a few months of special course. Moreover it is often held by someone who is unaware that the vernal equinox is not the moment when spring comes as a season here and there has been some movement on the issue of birds and the bees. Because at the same time, when spring comes in Europe, in South Africa comes as the fall as a season. Mathematics and astronomy I better not even mention.
I realize that for this situation contribute mostly the astrologers themselves. Being an astrologer without knowing the laws of nature and people is simply ridiculous. Being an astrologer and not realize that the horoscope is a model of the state of the Universe at the time of birth. And this model defines the orientation of the individual to the universe, his relationship with it, his specific place. It is unacceptable for an astrologer to suggest to his customers that the destiny physically, respectively the horoscope can change. This is an insane claim - no planet can change just like that its orbit around the Sun. From the moment of birth to the end of life of a man a specific movement can be outlined for all planets and from this to derive specific analysis. Everything in the "dynamics" of the horoscope is following strictly a law and is described in precise mathematical model.

Quite naturally the more people begin to call themselves astrologers, practice astrology and give advices, the more depreciated is the profession itself and what people get from it. Astrologers were once honored, they have received great respect and were people from the elite. Today - they are almost at the bottom. Most Western people visit an astrologer out of curiosity, out of interest. Astrologers themselves are also people and in most cases, have a commercial attitude - if customers want it, they'll get it. Eventually an interesting symbiosis has been reached - the people do not treat astrologers and astrology with respect and therefore they do not receive very good quality of astrological advice.

In one of the previous articles I mentioned that people have a distorted perception of what they can expect from astrology. And as a consequence, it affects what an astrologer should do. For better or worse today praised are those astrologers who have better linguistic and marketing skills than astrological. But perhaps precisely this is what should happen. Its continuous modification and free access to create an obstacle to reach its very essence. Who knows?
A few years ago partly as a joke, partly seriously, I made a heretical statement before colleagues that astrology should be banned. Naturally I received very strong criticisms and condemnation. The reasoning was that astrology is knowledge that must reach all people. Yes, such a slogan sounds "humane". But have you noticed that most precious true natural products such as diamonds, gold and oil, are not so easily accessible. They are buried deep underground and serious effort is needed to obtain them. Are we smarter or Nature? Everybody repeats the mantra of the Little Prince, that the most valuable is invisible to the eye. And at the same time any attempt to preserve the value of astrology, by making it less available for general use (and abuse) is repeled fiercely.
I personally, as an astrologer do not accept everyone who is willing to have astrological consultation. I made my mistakes in the beginning and I realized that not everyone is ready to get this "glance at his life." And he should not. To some extent, the fact that not all people interested are ready for the astrology is offset by the operation of the majority of astrologers. They do primarily psychoanalytic consultation with very small element of astrology. There are many entrepreneurs "astrologers" who developed a serious business. Unfortunately they already dominate. Even in Western countries, not only here in our country.
For me it's no surprise that the astrologers, especially in Bulgaria, are currently seen as unserious. People are right. When astrologers themselves do not know how to preserve the value of astrology and to achieve the necessary respect for it, then they deserve to be placed under the section - "Service staff. Recommended education level - 10th grade".
