When the New Acropolis Museum was opened, the expectations were that it will be visited by 1.5m people for a year. However, only four months after the ceremony, it has had 1m visitors, breaking the world records for an Archeological museum.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism Pavlos Gerulanos was officially handed the one-millionth ticket on Thursday morning and said he was going to keep it in his archives. Another good news came to Gerulanos’ knowledge- the Administrative Board announced that they are going to continue their work against no payment.

The minister congratulated them on their decision and wished them to keep excelling in what they do. Regarding the huge interest towards the new museum, the minister noted that this is an example of how tourism and culture can be combined.

In addition, tourist agents confirmed informally that the new museum caused a significant increase in tourists in Athens. They don’t use the city as a transit station any more, but stay overnight in order to make time for the country’s impressive asset.
