Refugees and immigrants moved from Pedio tou Areos Park to Eleonas

The operation to move the illegal immigrants from Pedio tou Areos Park (Campus Martius) to the refugee centre specially created for this purpose in the Athens neighbourhood of Eleonas in the area of ​​Votanikos was completed without problems.

The last bus of the fire department that was used to transport the people left at around 7:00 pm on Sunday from Mavromateon Street that was closed to traffic in order to ensure safety.

According to the police, five buses moved 171 people, 30 refused to follow them and remained in Pedio tou Areos Park. Let us recall that 295 refugees and immigrants were registered in the park.

The relevant departments of the Municipality of Athens will subsequently clean the area and it will be available to visitors. Simultaneously, there will be police presence to prevent other illegal immigrants from squatting there and to advise them to go to the base in Eleonas. The base consists of 100 containers that can accommodate up to 600 people in total and from 5 to 7 people can live in each of them. All flats have a kitchen, bathroom, beds and mattresses and the Internet connection for the needs of the administrative services will be installed in the coming days.
