The grey daily routine and the past glory, the old forbidden desires and the hunger for the new, the faith in the future and pain from the destruction, the will for freedom, however also the insecurity of the European perspective are all captured in the pictures of the photographers from the exhibition “Light and shadow” organized by the Hellenic foundation for culture in Istanbul.
Eight photographers from all Balkan countries worked on these controversies. After the exhibition of those photos in Belgrade and Bucharest they leave for Istanbul – one of the culture capitals in Europe for this year. The event is organized in cooperation with the Municipality of Beyoğlu within the program “2010 a year of the intercultural dialog of art”. The opening will be on January 9th. The Greek ambassador in Ancara Fotis Xydas will also attend the event.
The black and white photo of Bevits Fusa from Albania, Timurtas Onan from Trukey, Nina Nikolova - Bulgaria, Milomir Kovachevich - Bosnia, Stanko Abadzic - Croatia, Virgil Mlesnita - Romania, Imre Sambo - Serbia, and Stelios Evstatopulous - Greece create a wild and at the same time filled with tenderness landscape by drawing energy from their personal experience.
“The synthesis of different points of view reveals the common Balkan features” points out the curator of the exhibition Magdalena Mihailidou for “Elefterotipia” newspaper. As president of the Hellenic foundation for culture Georgios Babiniotis emphasizes “separated or together the pictures of small communities from the region, who live close to each other for over hundred years, support the individuality of each nation and at the same time show the man - the common denominator of the origin of this art, in spite of his nationality, religion or the language he speaks”.
The exhibition will be held in the art hall of the Munisipality of Beyoğlu located in the central street Isticlal and will start from January 9th, until February 9th, 2010.
