The first stage during the second day of the rally brought shock to spectators and drivers. On the eighth kilometer after Klelia the car of the world champion and last year Rally Acropolis winner Sebastien Loeb went out of the road and endured serious damages.
Fortunately, the driver and his co-pilot are well but they will have to leave the rally untimely.
This is the second time such accident happens to Loeb this year.
During the first day of Rally Acropolis he finished third after Mikka Hirvonen (Ford Focus WRC) and Dani Sordo (Citroen C4 WRC), which is the reason why everybody was expecting him to attack and win the first place today.
The fastest driver in the following special stage “Gimno” was Evgeny Novikov. The eighteen year old Russian from Citroen Junior’s team covered 26.28km for 19 minutes and 3,6 seconds, leaving Peter Solberg (19:04.8) and Jari-Matti Latvala (19:06.2) behind.
After this result the overall ranking is lead by Hirvonen with a total time of 1:58:15.8 followed by Dani Sordo with 1:58:18.8.
The fastest Greek was Lambros Athanassoulas, who ranked on 12th position with a total time of 2:04:25.1.
