Marcos Baghdatis is in a great shape in the beginning of the year. Apart from the statements of the tennis player that the number one goal for his are not the successes, but the hard practices which will put him back in good physical shape after a long period of traumas, the successes do not leave the tennis player for a single moment. The tennis, which Baghdatis shows at the tennis court is definitely much more that just a hard practice after the international Sydney tournament brought him….. a cup. During the tournament Baghdatis managed to outplay (even though it was a dramatic game) the tennis player from France Richard Gasquet. The cup won in Sydney is the fourth title in the carrier of the Cyprus player and the day when this happened is definitely not casual – it falls in with his brother’s birthday. Baghdatis continued his success in Melbourne during the open championship of Australia. In a game in the first round he outplayed his Italian opponent Paolo Lorenzi with 3:0 sets, 6:2; 6:4 and 6:4. The Cyprus player showed a very offensive game and gave no chance for an attack to Lorenzi. In the game of the second round he played against the Spanish David Ferrer. During the game which lasted 4 hours he scored a dramatic victory over his opponent. In this game full of emotions both players had a really tough fight. In the first two sets Baghdatis did not manage to use all of his chances to have his foot in the door of his opponent and so he lost them. The turning point came at the third set when he became more confident and aggressive and literary turned the game around. In the separate parts he won by 4:6, 3:6, 7:6, 6:3, 6:1 and had a total of 11 aces as opposed to Ferrer who only had one. The many Cyprian and Greek fans gathered at the tribunes gave Baghdatis strength in the games. At the tribunes there were many relatives of the player who live in Australia. Baghdatis has already been among the finalists of Australian Open in 2006. Since then the players has been tortured by sports traumas and that is why his goal was his quick return not so much to the successes as much as to the tennis itself. The success however does not leave him…. His victory in the second round of Australian Open is his seventh victory which qualifies him for the third round of the Open championship of Australia where his opponent will be Lathen.
