Unemployment continues to be a major problem in Greece, young people being the most affected by it. Nevertheless, despite the negative outlook for quite a number of professions, there are sectors in Greece that still offer plenty of opportunities and it is expected that they will create new jobs in the future.
As revealed by "Kathimerini" newspaper, a recent study of the prospects of different sectors of the economy indicates that seven of them have the most significant potential for creating new jobs.
In particular, these are as follows:
Tourism: It is estimated that 220,000 jobs will be created over the next 10 years. Despite the negative element of seasonality, there are noteworthy prospects for the following professions:
- Employees in charge of the organization of activities in various forms of tourism (medical, religious, sports, archaeological, alternative)
- Guide to historical sites or underwater ancient monuments
Health care: The sector continues to look for employees because the aging population and the increasing life expectancy will lead to increased employment in it. According to studies, 2 million jobs in health care will be created in Europe over the coming years.

Energy and green technologies: the government has announced its intention to establish a university centre for oil exploration, which clearly shows the prospects facing the energy sector. Manufacturing industry: food industry and building materials
The food industry has withstood the crisis and it continues to be one of the most important sectors of the Greek economy.
Another sector of the manufacturing industry is building materials, where there is a wide variety of products, companies and export orientation. The metal and woodworking sectors have good prospects for development as well.
