Sidney Govou could pay for his nightlife with his ... contract with Panathinaikos

Sidney Govou could pay a high price for his night tours around Athens places of entertainment. The French player was caught drunk at Villa Mercedes Club in Glyfada last Saturday and a little after 4 o’clock in the morning he went to another club in Piraeus. It is worth noting that this is the second violation of the Frenchman in the past week. Ten days ago, he was caught drunk at the Egomio Club in Glyfada. He was drinking and smoking freely while his team struggled in the match against Ergotelis on Crete. Things seriously have changed although they claimed from the club that the life of Govou outside the stadium did not concern them. The night feasts of the Frenchman literally enraged the management of Panathinaikos, including the President Nicolas Pateras. Pateras is determined to impose hefty fines on Govou to ... € 50,000. The next time they see Govou drunk and touring the clubs after the ‘curfew’ the agreement with Panathinaikos will be terminated with no prior notice.

They turned a blind eye on his first night blowout from the club associating it with the recent death of his father. Now, however, they are angry that the player demeans not only himself but the image of the team too. The 32-year-old Govou was required to submit in writing an apology to 15.10.

Govou’s life outside the stadium troubles Djibril Cisse too. Cisse was the one who voted with both his hands for the player. He helped the ‘novice’, who was met with Bengal fires and rejoicing at the airport, to adapt to his new team. The Greek sports website sport.gr quoted the remarks he made for footmercato.net: "I have spoken with him already. Let him do whatever he wants. I do not think I can do anything else about Govou.”

Buying Sydney was not easy. It led Panathinaikos and Olympiakos to get off to war in the summer. Ultimately, Govou chose the champion of the country, although the amount offered by Olympiakos was higher. Here it is his notorious weakness for ‘dolce vita’ that is to disservice him. Alcohol, nightlife and fast cars are the favourites of the French national player, who has a noisy scandal with a minor prostitute in Paris in his record. Shortly before becoming part of Panathinaikos the French police caught him drunk to drive a car. As a result, Govou was left without a driver's license and he was using taxi for months. We'll see if he is in taxi in Athens…
