On Tuesday, 15th July, the first summer discounts start and, according to market expectations, in many stores, they will surpass 50 percent the very first day.
The discounts period will continue until the end of August, and the National Chamber of Commerce has sent instructions to the companies and chambers throughout the country to inform their members about the obligations they have.
The Chamber of Commerce notes that:
1. It is mandatory to provide two prices of all goods on sale – an old one (usually crossed out) and a new one, in a conspicuous place in the store as well as in all places where the goods are displayed.
2. The discount percentage should be displayed if the store management decides to. If the sale percentage is indicated, it should be noted that there is a discount of price (for example, 50% discount).
Particular attention should be paid to the accuracy of the promotional ads because the fines are serious. All advertisements must comply with the service offered in terms of price, quality and quantity.
On the one hand, the Chamber of Commerce appeals to the dealers to protect the system of discounts and to demonstrate once again they respect their customers, on the other hand, they turn to the consumers – to choose and support organised outlets, not illegal trade offering neither quality, nor guarantees or receipts.
Furthermore, the Chamber urges Greek families of adult and young consumers not to forget the initiative started by the Chamber a few months earlier: "Buy goods produced in Greece".
