The regular summer sales in perhaps the worst economic environment of recent years will begin on Monday, 13 July and will continue until 31 August. Of course, many shops have announced discounts of up to 50% for many days in an effort to attract customers who, because of the capital restrictions and the uncertainty about the financing of the Greek economy, are spending almost only on the supply of food and fuels.
Moreover, it is no coincidence that since last week, many shops as well as the main representative body of the commercial sector, the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce, have stressed the possibility of shopping with credit cards. Despite the difficult situation, the Confederation issued a message yesterday, wishing retailers the greatest possible success due to the reduction and consumers "to forget the closed banks and the restricted access to their accounts as far as possible, and using their credit cards to take advantage of the sales and shop cheaply." "Retailers will offer a wide variety of goods at very attractive and competitive prices", the Hellenic Retail Business Association emphasized in turn.
Next Sunday, 19 July, shops will be allowed to open from 11 am to 8 pm, as this will be the first Sunday of the sales period.
To recall that, under Law 4177/2013, all shops, regardless of their size, are allowed to open seven Sundays a year, one of which is the first Sunday of the sales period.
Prices
During the sales period, in addition to the old and the new reduced price of the goods and services offered at a discount, the rate of discount might be indicated as well.
If a shop offers all items at a price reduced by more than 60%, it has to indicate the discount rate on the shop window and if the discount offered depends on the category of goods, it must indicate the range of the proposed discount rates (from ....% to ....%). In all other cases, shops should specify that the reductions apply to selected goods and indicate the relevant percentage.
