A meeting between the Olympiakos president Sokratis Kokalis and the new manager Timur Ketsbaia took place in the club’s headquarters in Pireaus yesterday. Present at the meeting was also the club’s general manager Giannis Chrisikopoulos.
The main discussion topic at the meeting was the club’s behavior in the transfer market and in particular – different options for strengthening the defense and buying potential central defenders at Olympiakos.
Players under consideration by the club’s management include Ivica Dragutinovic and Derbyshire from Blackburn. The transfer of Ivica Dragutinovic, a renowned central defender, is supposed to reinforce Olympiakos’ defensive line.
The manager of Olympiakos – Ketsbaia – has demanded personally that the transfer issue be solved sooner rather than later, as the team is leaving for Austria for pre-season training next Monday.
Another Athenian club – AEK – is also active on the transfer market. Today, the yellow-blacks have signed the Romanian international Ilia Iordanke. After signing a three-year deal, the player declared: “I am very happy to join a big European club like AEK. I can’t wait to start the season in one of the world’s most competitive championships. I know some of the players from my previous stay and training sessions with the team and expect to have an easier introduction period. I am hoping for a good and long cooperation with the staff and manager Dusan Bajevic – someone I still have a lot to learn from. I am eager to join the team. On the other hand, I’m familiar with AEK because of my compatriots like Dobos, Dumitresku and Dumitru, who used to work for the club.
