Hollywood star Susan Sarandon arrived on the island of Lesbos to show solidarity with the drama of hundreds of thousands of people trying to escape the war in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. The winner of the Best Actress Oscar for the film "Dead Man Walking" in 1995 walked along the coast of Skala Sikamnias where the boats with migrants from Turkey are arriving.
She talked with representatives of non-governmental organizations that have undertaken to take care of refugees on the island and had her picture taken with one of them, namely Apostolis Paraskevopoulos. Susan Sarandon will stay on Lesbos a few more days but her programme there remains hitherto unknown.
The actress published a photo on her personal Twitter account "On my way to Lesbos."
The actress and her long-time partner, director Tim Robbins are among the most prominent Hollywood activists and downright opponents of the US military intervention in Iraq.
