The Company of Gizi – a neighbourhood in Athens – is believed to be formed by a 30-year-old anarchist four years ago, who was arrested for bank robbery. Police officers say that "we are talking about a group of people linked by the admiration and attempt to imitate the activity of the anarchist Christos Tsutsuvis, who formed the group for anti-state struggle in 1985 and was killed in a clash with the police several months later. Most of these people were watched since the spring of 1989, but evidence against them has not been found. They were involved in arsons at first and then continued with armed robbery."
The investigation also focused on finding the arms supplier of both groups. The police turned their attention to two criminals of the western suburbs of Athens, who had contacts with anarchists. The arms smuggling channels in northern Greece and Crete that carry weapons from Bulgaria and Albania are being investigated too.
