Besides all this each day less and less Greeks get vaccinated, with the exception of the citizens of the Crete Island, where one of every ten people is vaccinated. According to the Center for control and prevention of infections in other regions of the country the same percent varies between 2 – 3%. The lowest percent of vaccinated people is in Peloponnesus, Ionion islands and Epir.
According to report of the National department for public health care, 77% of the Greeks consider that too much attention is drawn on the topic, and 74% say they will not get vaccinated, because they are afraid of side effects. The data is from a research of the public opinion for swine flu made in December 14th to December 20th
The Greeks have some prejudice regarding the vaccine, doctors of the European drug organization are saying that cases when side effects have caused problems are very few. Out of 28,7 million Europeans among which 218 000 pregnant women there are only 9 000 cases of side effects, and only 14 of them are considered to be serious problems.
