Swine flu vaccination in Greece will start on November 16. This was written in a general letter sent to all competent authorities by minister of health Mariliza Xenoyanakopoulou. All doctors and hospital staff will be vaccinated during the first week. It is possible during the first week for some patients to be vaccinated as well but only after a medical expertise is given by a doctor, saying that this is needed. All doctors, dentists in public hospitals and practitioners and hospital staff working in private clinics with less than 150 beds, will be vaccinated as well.
All risk groups and people with chronic diseases will be able to get vaccinated from November 23 and on. This will be done in their respective hospitals. By the end of November all citizens, who voluntarily want to get vaccinated will be able to do so in all health centers everyday in the afternoon, including the weekends.
All hospitals will have a commission for flu pandemic. In accordance with the Ministry of Health all hospital will create their own teams, responsible for swine flu vaccination, who will vaccinate the patients in specifically made for this purpose rooms.
Right now Greece has 700 000 vaccines against the H1N1 virus. Until the end of the month another 1 000 000 are expected to be imported.
A 56 year old man is being hospitalized in the Emergency Aid Center in Athens. He is in critical condition with severe breathing insufficiency. He has chronic breathing and heart problems and the complications appeared after he was infected with the swine flu virus.
Students from two classes in a high school in Poligiros, Halkidiki, will not attend school during the following seven days due to new swine flu cases. Also, two classes in the experimental department in Thessaloniki University will not attend school due to the same reason.
