No one in Greece wants to bother the public sector and farmers. They are burdening the middle class just to pass over them. Things are simple. Politicians do not want to bother even pensioners with higher pensions in the range of 2,500-3,500 euro. These are former military, judges, employees of state companies, and some of them have retired before the required age. These are the so-called "party armies." They are left aside and the pensioner who receives an average of 800 euro per month is at the epicentre.
What is the future of the main opposition party New Democracy after the resignation of its leader Antonis Samaras? Do you see a person in the party that could unite the centre-right in Greece and increase its electorate?
In my opinion, the best solution for New Democracy is to leave interim leader Evangelos Meimarakis at the helm of the party for one year. None of the other contenders has the qualities to unite the centre-right. Makis Voridis would unite the right wing while Kyriakos Mitsotakis the political centre.
Evangelos Meimarakis is uniting both spaces. In addition, he is experienced, has good relations with the rest of the parties and if New Democracy were reasonable, it should keep him as a leader to avoid getting entangled in voting that would disunite the party in such a critical moment for Greece.
