SYRIZA privatizes 14 regional airports

The Greek government has decided to grant the concession of 14 regional airports to the German company Fraport. The decision was taken during the meeting of the Government Council for Economic Policy on 13 August and was published in the Official Gazette yesterday pursuant to the relevant competition completed months ago. The implementation of the project in question is part of the memorandum that became a law of the country on 14 August.

The decision bears the signatures of Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis and Ministers of Finance Efklidis Tsakalotos, Economy George Stathakis and Reconstruction Panos Skourletis.

This is the first privatization deal carried out by the government of SYRIZA. As is clear from the publication in the Official Gazette, there is no change and the contract will be concluded in compliance with the conditions of the competition won by the German company. The price that Fraport will pay amounts to 1.23 billion euro.

The 14 provincial airports are as follows:

  • Thessaloniki Airport
  • Corfu Airport
  • Chania Airport, Crete
  • the airport on Kefalonia island  
  • the airport on Zakynthos island  
  • Aktion Airport
  • Kavala Airport
  • the airport on Rhodes island 
  • the airport on Kos island
  • the airport on Samos island
  • the airport on Lesbos island 
  • the airport on Mykonos island
  • the airport on Santorini island
  • the airport on Skiathos island
