The island’s refinement will enchant you and you will enjoy discovering its hidden treasures.

1. Transfer from Syros to Milan

The Municipal "Apollon" Theatre, a copy of Milan's La Scala, was the centre of aesthetics in the 19th century not only for locals but also for traders who came to the island looking for profit.

An emblem of Ermoupoli’s cultural development

It was built in 1862-1864 according to a plan by famous Italian architect Pietro Sabo. It started operating on 20 April 1864 and Verdi's Rigoletto was the first performance there. During World War II, it suffered a lot of damage and underwent restoration works after the war somewhat changed its appearance. Marika Kotopouli’s last show was performed here on 24 March 1953. The theatre’s restoration began in 1970 and it started operating for the first time after about 40 years of interruption.

2. My heart belongs to Daidadi

The first thing you need to do upon arrival on the island is to try an ice cream at Daidadi Gelato. An Italian called Daniele fell in love with the island at first sight and opened an ice-cream house which became a legend. The secret of the ice cream is that it is made of milk. Try various flavours, such as cherry, vanilla, fig, melon and space cookie. It is located on Papagou square in Ermoupoli.

3. Enjoy an El Greco canvas

Panagia Psarianon is the second church in Ermoupoli built in 1828. Its decoration is exceptional. You will find an icon of the Assumption, one of the first works of Domenicos Theotokopoulos-El Greco. It has been housed in the church since the 19th century, but it was only confirmed that it is an authentic work of the great artist in 1983.

4. Take a walk in Ano Syros

The medieval village of Ano Syros is perfect for a pleasant evening stroll. You can enjoy Ermoupoli while sipping your drink to the sounds of jazz. Put your sneakers on if you want to go up the steps.

Ano Syros is a fortress built by the Venetians in the 8th century.

5. For good Italian food

Ambikas is the first thing you will see upon disembarking. It is located at 26 Akti Papagou in Ermoupoli. The place may not be so attractive, but the food will compensate for this. The owners are Italian and offer authentic Italian cuisine. Try carbonara, Calabrese with anchovies and do not miss the home-made pasta.

6. The beach of Asteria

How to get there? From the City Hall, go down the stairs and you will reach the unique famous city beach of Ermoupoli. Have a swim while enjoying the view over the beautiful neoclassical buildings and Agios Nikolaos. You will feel as if you are in Venice and live your own "Dolce Vita". After the beach you can enjoy your coffee at Asteria Beach bar overlooking the sea.
