In a previous article I showed you a few ways to stay informed about everything that happens in the most popular social network without constantly "hanging" in it and lose valuable time. In the article I mentioned the problem of privacy and control over the content that you receive or publish. Anyone who has an account in Facebook, sooner or later reaches a point where he has gathered too diverse friends and wants to be able to share certain information with only some of them, but for others this information to remain private.

In other words, you have had a great vacation and want to share your craziest pictures with your friends, but without these images falling in front of the eyes of people whom you do not want to see them. On the other hand you have come accros an interesting professional information you want to share with colleagues from your industry, without imposing it to people for whom it wouldn’t be uninteresting. These examples are very general, but I think you get the idea.

How to control the content we receive?

We will first start with the page where you get all of your friends’ status updates, news, and newsfeeds from the sites you like. How to control the content that appears there and why do it instead of directly removing the source of the tedious details?

Go to the homepage of Facebook, after logging into your account (Home) and on the side to the sign "News" will see the "Most recent".

Click on the "Most recent" and select "Edit Options", then you will see the box "Edit your news feed settings". From here you can choose whether to receive everything from everyone by selecting "All of your friends and pages" or to receive only from those whom you interact with most often. My advice is to select "All pages and friends." It is better that you choose yourself the publications of which users not to see.

Once you have selected that you want to receive everything from everyone, how can you choose whose annoying posts not to receive? It is very easy, even obvious. When the cursor of your mouse passes over some publication, in the top right corner appears a little X. When you press it the following options appear:

You can hide only this specific post, but you can choose to hide everything that this user posts.

How to cancel hiding all posts by a user? Go again to Home> Most recent> Edit options... and the "Hide posts from" you will see all users whose posts you have chosen not to see. With the X after the name, you can delete them from the list and you will start receiving their publications.

Now comes the turn of the real part, creating and working with groups. Groups allow you to separate friends with common interests, with whom I will show you later how to share specific information

How to create groups of friends with similar interests and how to post certain information visible only for them?

Facebook allows you to combine different friends of yours in social network into groups, then you can share certain types of information only with the people included in the group.

Here's how to create a group of users:

Go to Account> Edit friends

On the top click "Create new list". You will see a window where you can name your group of friends and specify who from your friends to join in this group:

After selecting the group’s name and who to enter into it, press "Create list". On the left side of the page you will see the groups you created.

Once you have grouped your contacts, comes the time to identify, who can see your posts. This is done from Account> Security settings> Customizing settings:

After entering the "Customize Settings" menu, click on the dropdown menu for "Posts by me" and select "Customize":

The following window will appear:

You have three options - to hide information from certain people, to show it to certain people or to combine.

IMPORTANT!: Please note that the above-mentioned settings apply to every post you make. In other words, if we take examples from the image above, whatever you post will be seen only from the group "colleagues".

You can leave by default, all your posts to be visible to all your friends, and only when you post something specific, to limit it for a certain group. Here's how this is done:

When you publish a status, photo or link next to the "Share" button there is a small padlock, which when pressed shows the drop-down menu. Select the option "Customize". The following familiar window will load:

Select "Specific people", then select a group or specific people to see the shared content. Selecting it, happens by typing the name of the group, person who can see the content.

In conclusion I will say that it is good for a man to direct his publications, be it for reasons of preserving your personal space, as far as we can talk about this on the internet and social networks, be it so as not to bore your friends with information that would not be interesting for them. On the other hand, it is good to know how to filter the content you receive, because quite often we have friends or relatives who abuse the use of Facebook. Personally I do not need to know whose pet had plenty of breakfast and who plans on going to the hairdresser today.

Facebook is a means of communication and it is good to know its options so as to use it fully.
