In the top four of the play-offs of A1 for the second consecutive year qualified the male water polo team of Voulyagmeni. In a game against the team of Panathinaikos, which was played in the OAKA pool in Athens it defeated by 10 - 7 its green opponent. The game between the two teams is the second in a row, and with its victory from this game Voulyagmeni took the lead by 2-0.
The game took place in the uneasy atmosphere of the gathered few, but aggressive fans of the hosts. Insulting and offensive shouts made ffor the guest team forced police to intervene...
Due to an injury in the back of the goalkeeper Repas for the second consecutive game in its place played Papadimitrakopoulos. Vranies was also missing from the game as a protest against the unpaid money by the manager.
The match began with a strong game by Panathinaikos. They entered into the game dynamically and managed to complete most of the chances to score. The enthusiastic game and the aggressiveness carried the burden towards the goal post of Voulyagmeni. The greens made some mistakes in the defense that cost them four goals...
The mistakes in the defense they corrected during the next eight minutes. Along with this, however, they weakened the offense. Panathinaikos was definitely not able to combine the two tasks and this proved to be fatal for the game.
During the next eight minutes they recovered somewhat their strengths in the pool, but could not defeat the strong guest. Again Voulyagmeni was the team that was superior in the water. Although Panathinaikos strengthen its defense, it failed to block the enemy’s attacks. So again the guests took the lead albeit with 3 points.
Panathinaikos had a chance to catch up these 3 points in the last eight minutes of game. With this it could erase the results of the previous meeting between the teams when it lost by 6-7 and to become worthy opponent of Voulyagmeni. Unfortunately the last few minutes proved to be the weakest in the game for Panathinaikos...
