Winter is now behind us and it's time to refresh ourselves. Days are warm and fresh colours are starting to prevail around us. Spirits are rising and we are feeling like having a new hairstyle to cheer us up after the cold months. Just a day after the presentation of the new trends of Gino coiffures in Athens, GRReporter had the opportunity to meet with the company's creative director Vassilis Drigos to draw refreshing ideas for the new season. Undercut and Disconnected are the two main spring/summer 2013 trends. In one of the trends, hair is split into separate areas and they are cut short in order to give it a more interesting shape. The disconnected trend does not make drastic changes but it plays with the length of the various strands, which gives your hair dynamics and a feeling of lightness.

"There is no age differentiation in hairstyles. Women are more willing to experiment now than ever regardless of their age, including 18-year-old girls to 55-year-old ladies, who have been loyal customers of the studio," says Vassilis, who is welcoming us with a smile to his office in Maroussi. He says this is largely due to the crisis. "People want to feel good, to refresh themselves, they do not want to be permanently depressed. There is no better way to do this than with a fresh new haircut," he says enthusiastically. Conservatism gives way to innovation. Asymmetry no longer scares women. Fashionable bold colours have been gaining ground recently and this is true for this season too. Asymmetry requires variations in colour in order for the hairstyle to be distinguished.

Suitable colours for the summer season are copper blonde, light blonde, light red and even purple shades. Zoning of colours is becoming fashionable as well. "The combination of colours in a hairstyle gives life to your hair and brings the style to the fore," says the specialist.

Gino’s new collection is called "Ave .. new". It is inspired by the modern city and busy life. However, there is always time for refreshment, for a new hairstyle and a modern colour to correspond to the modern urban woman. "Our new collection has exactly those characteristics that make Avenues special. A wide road where people of all cultures walk up and down, all coming or going, all unique in their own way, all with one goal: to reach their destination. Ave...new Collection gives you an avenue to express yourself, an avenue to mirror your feelings, needs and passions through your hairstyle," says the coiffure, adding with a smile again, "All roads lead to Gino".

For healthy hair, it is essential to visit the hairdresser’s 4-5 times a year. Thus, you will not only maintain your desired shape but you will also keep your hair healthy because the unhealthy parts and split ends will be removed in time, thus preventing them from reaching the middle of the hair. One centimetre of regular trimming keeps your hair healthy. "In the past, women were using heavy hydrating masks. Today, there are wonderful innovative hair products that protect and nourish your hair without giving weight to it. These are hair oils." The new nourishing oils of best quality can be found only in specialized hairdressers’. They are more expensive than ordinary products available in the shops but their effect is much better.

Vassilis stresses that the old practice of applying homemade nourishing masks is really effective, but only for untreated hair. "A homemade mask with vegetable oil or olive oil can further damage coloured or chemically treated hair. Few people know, but olive oil itself contains an acid that can further damage coloured hair."

Mediterranean women are traditionally distinguished for their strong brittle hair. In recent years, however, straight silky hair has been dominant. For easy maintenance of beautiful straight hair, Vassilis recommends the Brazilian Keratin treatment. "It is wrong to believe that Brazilian is a method of hair straightening. It is not. This treatment is based on enriching your hair with keratin. It is found only in our hair and nails. This treatment gives elasticity and nourishes the hair. After treating the hair, its straightening is easier and the effect lasts up to four months. It should not be used more than 2-3 times a year," says Vassilis.

The coiffure’s chain bears the name of its founder, Gino. He began his career in London in the 1960s. After several years of practice, he crossed the ocean and settled in Canada. A little later, he moved to New York where the spirit of the metropolis inspired him. He was fond of Elvis’ music like all young rebels of his time but also respected the classics of old Hollywood where he lived with Frank Sinatra’s songs. After years of experience abroad, Gino returned to Greece and opened his first studio in his native country. It has quickly established itself on the market and today, it is one of the most respected names in the business.

"Gino’s secret of success is his hard work and constant training. He never ceases to give his all. I have been with him for more than 20 years now. He never stops looking for new developments and handing down the craft to young and talented people," says Vassilis. The studio offers regular training seminars for its employees and cooperates with international companies. It follows the global trends but also takes into account the identity of its customers. A woman is distinguished for her hair, be it short or long. She should feel comfortable in her own skin. Healthy beautiful hair only adds to her confidence and personality.
