Until July, all citizens – Greeks and foreigners living in Greece will have to get a social insurance registration number (AMKA).

The only requirement for foreigners is showing a passport. The procedure is facilitative and it does not take much time but it is mandatory.

AMKA is a identity card for the job and insurance of every citizen and it will be needed when one starts a new job, retires, receives bonuses, or needs to get a health booklet.

AMKA is issued by the Centers for Servicing Citizens (KEP) all around Greece and by the 125 offices of the Labor Ministry, which were opened especially for this case. After receiving the AMKA number, every citizen will receive a social insurance card. Citizens can get informed about everything concerning AMKA on telephone number 11131 or at www.amka.gr.
