A victory of AEK over PAOK

The game from the 17th round of the A1 between the male volleyball teams of AEK and PAOK, played in Athens at the Neo Iraklio hall ended with a victory of yellow-black team. With the score of 3:2 the hosts showed their dominance over PAOK in spite of the extreme situation in which the team was – a great part of the players were fighting with their sports traumas. The traumas were also the reason why on the field did not appear the key players Santiago Daraidu and Christos Belos. As opposed to the hosts, the players of PAOK were in much better physical shape and nevertheless they were at the opponent’s grounds theoretically they had a much greater chances for a victory. Even though AEK did not have any great expectations for the game, surprisingly it managed to get the upper hand over the opponent and in this way took the eight place in the chart of the teams.

The first set between the teams ended with a small difference in favor of the hosts. During the second set the guests strengthened their attacks in the opponent’s field and managed to even the score and even take the lead by 9 points. The third set was again won by the hosts with a difference of 3 points and the fourth was won by the guests with 12 points difference. The two teams were taking turns in taking the lead and had equal chances for a victory. During the tie brake however AEK definitely took the things in its hands – the players Karipidis and Konseisao managed to score points for their team with well planed passes and tactics and in this way the yellow and black team took the final lead.
