VIP flights of the Greek government for € 6,000,000

A file is opened in Thessaloniki against 15 police officers in the field of services as well as against the owners of establishments involved in illegal online gambling. The police officers are accused of abuse of power and passive bribery. Two other policemen and a government official were arrested with charges of violation of the law on drugs and distribution of counterfeit currency. According to the indictment, these officers supplied with drugs their informants in exchange for information relating to drug distribution.

A resident and his girlfriend accused of drug possession are arrested too. The arrested man pretended to be a policeman with acquaintances in the prosecution and stated he was able to mediate a positive court ruling for custody of a minor child separated from his father and requested € 8,000 for that.

An engineer from the organization of workers’ housing tried to deceive a woman with € 10,000 for inspecting the house, which the woman would purchase through the tax loan program of the organization. The engineer is charged with passive corruption.

A senior officer of the forestry was arrested for bribery and extortion for requesting a private owner to pay him a large sum of money to be issued qualification certificates for the land he owns. A retired from agriculture, holding an office for processing of documents of cars, is accused of forgery of medical certificates for drugs and for fake vehicle plates. Two officials of the Ministry of Environment were arrested again for passive bribery. The arrested were in charge of a ministerial department and asked a restaurant owner to pay them € 2,500 in order not to take actions against him for offending the noise requirements.

A file is opened against two customs officers in Attica for misappropriation and issuing false certificates. One of the defendants obtained 860,390 packs of smuggled cigarettes in 1712 boxes from the Office of Economic Crime which had to be burnt. According to witnesses, the defendants received those cigarettes and did not burn them.

There is a file opened against the head of the police health services for illegal prescriptions written in the health cards of policemen and amounting to € 150,000. The doctor used the personal health cards of the police officers during their visits in his official office to prescribe tests for other persons and for personal gain.
