The decision of the International Air Transport Association ΙΑΤΑ to require Greek travel agents to account for the sums from ticket sales every week, and not every 15 days, as before, because of the situation in Greece, has disturbed them since yesterday.
The owners of travel agencies have immediately contacted their associates to be able to collect the relevant amount until 16 July when the new payment terms will come into force and make the payment to ΙΑΤΑ, so as not to put at risk their accreditation in the international association. According to data of the Union of Greek Tourist and Travel Agents, trips of Greeks abroad booked online have been cancelled and many trips outside Greece (of lawyers, civil servants and more) have been postponed, assumingly because of the referendum on Sunday.
The already limited bookings inside the country made by Greeks have recently reached the zero point.
Moreover, sources indicate that bus drivers, who have served routes in Greece’s neighbouring countries these days, have had problems withdrawing money from ATMs abroad for refuelling. As a result, they have asked passengers for assistance, thus collecting the amount necessary to purchase fuel to be able to return to Greece.
