Greece will not be deprived from hosting the Mediterranean Games which will be held in 2013. It became clear during the last meeting of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, which was held in Malta. Despite the benevolence, which ultimately the committee looked at the Greece with, the president Amar Addadi was not satisfied. He received a letter from the Minister of employment Andreas Loverdos with assurances that the housing and sports facilities for the games will be build in time. In the letter, however, which the Chief Secretary for Sport Panos Bitsakits sent to Addadi lacked the signature of the Minister. For this reason and because of the huge delays on the part of Greece the International Committee decided that the final decision on whether Greece will host the games or not will be taken only after a month. Then Amar Addadi plans to meet with representatives of the Greek Government.

The hosting which the country met in the middle of last year with the enthusiasm turned from an occasion for joy into a reason for concern, conflicts and headaches. It pressured both the organizers and the International Committee. A month ago the assurances by the Greek side that delegation of the construction to a particular company will be done by the end of 2010 and by the beginning of 2013 the sports facilities and housing will be built did not sound convincing to the International Committee. So after long expectations to take specific actions and to comply with the terms it promised at a conference in Paris the committee threatened to take the hosting from Greece and will give it to Turkey.

Will Greece eventually be able to keep its word and make up for the delay? The spectacular plans for the construction of two sports villages in Volos and Larissa last trends of the technology really proved to be an uneasy task for execution. The plan of Greece provides for a facility with 225 homes, gardens, shops, churches and others, build with modern building materials, bioclimatic, “green”, and with new methods of utilizing the energy ...

Villages were expected to become a reason for proud of the cities Volos and Larissa. Their construction had to give a stimulus for further construction activity in the area. However whether this will happen? Organizers had great hopes for the construction experience gained during the Olympic Games in 2004. But the research needed to start work had to be completed in the late 2009 and the construction had to start in the summer of 2012. Currently, however these plans remain just plans ... And over the time they seem increasingly unreal. The issue of hiring a construction company and the issuance of building permits also remains unresolved ...
