During the last days "Aegean" aircrafts have carried experimental flights to destinations that have not been very popular. The company, participating in Civil Aviation competition, is ready to assign AVRO RJ-100 airplanes and two ATR 72-500 helicopters.
Up to now, the "Aegean" airplanes have flown for the first time to Aktio, area of Sitia, on Crete Island, the islands Kalimnos, Astipalea, Ikaria, Kitira, Skiatos, to Kalamata and Karpatos. These are the destination that the company is going to compete about with other companies this year.
Other participants in the competition, announced by the Civil Aviation, are Olympic Air and Athens Airways. The Aviation will provide €35mil for the companies to perform flights to destinations for which a great demand doesn't exist, explaining companies' low interest. The program is financed by the European Union as a part of the development plan for underprivileged continental areas.
