13 people, including 7 children died in another maritime tragedy near the Greek island of Farmakonisi following the sinking of a boat carrying 25 migrants.
The Greek coast guard members were able to rescue 15 passengers in distress whereas rescue and patrol boats are seeking another missing person. The operation also involves a Super Puma helicopter and private fishing boats.
Two of the rescued passengers, a man and woman, were transported by helicopter to a hospital on the island of Kos in a state of shock.
Yesterday another 11 migrants lost their lives near the Turkish coast opposite the Greek island of Samos. Three of the victims were children. The boat that was to carry them to the Greek islands departed from Kusadasi but sank shortly thereafter.
The Turkish coast guard managed to rescue seven passengers, as reported by Anadolu news agency, without specifying the nationality of the migrants.
