Arta residents woke up early this morning scared by a strong earthquake.
The tremor measured 5.2 on the Richter scale, according to the Geodynamics Institute, and was felt at 2:43 a.m. Its epicentre was 23 km south of Arta, in the Ambracian Gulf, at a depth of 5 km.
There is no information about property or infrastructure damage. The quake was felt both in the Epirus region and outside.
Two aftershocks followed, from an epicentre again south of Arta. The first one took place at 2:51 a.m., with a strength of 3.3 on the Richter scale, and the second one came just a few minutes later and had the same strength.
Zougla.gr contacted the fire service that said there was no evidence about any material damageshaving occurred. The Arta police corroborated this.
The quake was felt in Preveza, with no reports of damage having been caused there either.
