Those people in Greece who have not decided who to vote for until the last moment remain around 10 percent or 700 thousand. This percentage is significantly lower now than it was in previous elections, when the undecided citizens were approximately 25% -30% of the total number of voters. On the other hand, one in every three people said that they had decided who to vote for but did not discount the possibility of changing their vote at the last minute, announced Ethnos. Analysts report that many of the voters will vote for one party, not because they like it very much, but only to prevent its main political opponent from winning.
At the elections held in May the parties that failed to pass the 3 percent threshold gathered 18% of the national vote. This time, voters want to vote for one of the major parties in order to support one of the two main stands that determine today's elections: pro-or anti-Memorandum. In this situation, one party needs to collect at least 37.5%, in order to form its own government.
So far, just a day before the critical parliamentary elections on the 17th of June, political analysts in Greece, give priority to New Democracy with two to four points ahead of SYRIZA. The party of Alexis Tsipras is expected to become the second political power. Despite the forecasts the radical leftist party remains confident that on Monday it will take the mandate for forming a government. Analysts estimate that the situation in the past two weeks and the persistent rumours that Greece is threatened by exiting the eurozone have worked in favor of the party of Antonis Samaras.
The only certain information remains that the derby will be between New Democracy and SYRIZA. Analysts estimate that at these elections again SYRIZA is expected to win the majority of votes in the capital and other large central cities, but without any specific evidence for this prediction. The main voters of SYRIZA remain civil servants, freelance employees and part of the youth, while those who will vote for PASOK and New Democracy will mainly be pensioners and voters over 55 years of age. The parliamentary benches are also expected to be reached by members of the Democratic Left party of Fotis Kouvelis, the Independent Greeks of Panos Kamenos, the Greek Communist Party (KKE) and the neo-Nazis from the Golden Dawn, who lost a small part of their supporters after the party spokesman publicly beat up the communist Liana Kanelli. A hope to jump over the three percent barrier is also held by the democratic union between "Recreate Greece" and "Drasi" which includes also Stefanos Manos.
