85% of Greeks are unhappy with the government of Syriza-Independent Greeks, according to a new poll taken by the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki and commissioned by SKAI TV. Only 6.5% of respondents approve of the government policy. 71.5% of SYRIZA's own voters say they are not happy with the government while only 16% approve it.
As far as the popularity of political leaders is concerned, the poll shows a big gap between the two largest parties. Kyriakos Mitsotakis of New Democracy comes on top with a 30.5% positive response, followed by Vassilis Levendis of the Union of Centrists, Dimitris Koutsoubas of the Communist Party with 24%, and Tsipras only comes fourth with 23%.
73.5% of citizens are against the government's plans for pension reform. 59% of SYRIZA voters believe it is ill-advised.
Asked whether the government is moving in the right direction, 80.5% said 'no' and only 11% answered positively. A great deal of SYRIZA's voters are also negative: 62% of them believe the country is moving in the wrong direction.
In turn, a poll carried out by the Bridging Europe think tank for the Avgi daily indicates an 8.1 percentage points lead of SYRIZA over New Democracy. The poll also shows that Potami and the Union of centrists are likely to remain outside parliament.
In particular, SYRIZA got 24.7%, while New Democracy trailed with 16.6%. Next came the Communist Party with 7.1%, and Golden Dawn with 7%. The Democratic Coalition came fifth with 4.2%, and sixth were the Independent Greeks with 3.1%. Popular Unity (2.9%), the Union of centrists (2.4%) and Potami (1.9%) were indicated to remain outside parliament.
