The Greek Prime Minister has a busy programme of meetings during the first major event for 2016, namely his visit to the Swiss winter resort of Davos (21-24 January), where the World Economic Forum will take place.
His trip is particularly important because the Prime Minister will have meetings not only with European leaders, but also with senior officials from the US, such as head of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde.
The hot issue of involving the Fund in the bailout programme, the issue of Greek debt and the completion of the monitoring are expected to be among the main topics of the talks.
The government sources confirm that at the forum the Greek Prime Minister will have meetings with President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi, Vice-Chancellor of Germany Sigmar Gabriel, US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, US Vice President Joe Biden, Cyprus’ President Nicos Anastasiades and with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu.
Roundtable with Wolfgang Schäuble
The announced roundtable will be of particular interest. Alexis Tsipras and Wolfgang Schäuble, together with Prime Ministers of the Netherlands Mark Rutte and France Manuel Valls will sit at a table and discuss the refugee crisis and the policy of austerity: raised voices are not excluded.
