The notorious recidivist has held three or four of his fellow inmates as hostages, together with two or three warders in the prison, probably in a new attempt to escape. Alket Rizaj is armed; the police are already heading for the prison. The case is also being monitored by the Ministry of Justice; Marios Skandamis, the prison's chief secretary, has also headed for the prison.
According to Ethnos newspaper, the bandit has 200 grams of explosives, a knife and two grenades and is moving towards the exit of the prison. According to the online edition zougla.gr, everything started at 9:00 p.m., when the prison’s lights suddenly went out. According to the same edition, two of the hostages are women. According to To Vima newspaper, there was a prison riot and one of the rebel prisoners was Alket Rizaj.
According to Skai TV, there are only two hostages. A prosecutor has already arrived at the prison, under whose leadership negotiations for the release of the hostages have begun.
Alket Rizaj wants to be released from the prison of Malandriou. The Albanian has two escapes from the prison in Korydallos on his records, together with his comrade Vassilis Paleokostas, who has so far remained elusive. Their first cinematographic escape by helicopter happened on 4 June 2006. A few months later, they were captured. Another escape was carried out according to exactly the same scenario on 22 February 2009.
The authorities managed to find him on 17 November of the same year in a cottage in the village of Grammatikos near Athens, together with his girlfriend Soula, who is also serving a prison sentence.
