The police investigation in connection with the robbery at Athens international airport on Sunday, October 2, continues. Three people were arrested - a couple and a man of Albanian origin who is believed to have participated in the robbery of a branch of Alpha Bank at Athens "Eleftherios Venizelos" airport, from which one million Euros were stolen. Police found the taxi and the driver, with which the perpetrator had fled. Meanwhile, his actions were filmed by the bank's cameras at the airport.

In the house of the arrested, the police found 739,530 Euros of the stolen money, 8,990 British pounds, 31,000 US Dollars, 2 guns, 802 bullets, a bulletproof vest, 50 rolls of duct tape, electrical appliances and mobile phones.

The audacious robbery of the Alpha Bank branch at Athens airport resembles a film script.

According to information, the perpetrator had called the bank branch a few days earlier, on behalf of the Department for maintenance of the bank property, and informed the bank employees that the technical company, which cooperates with Alpha Bank would begin repair work on Sunday and would send two workers.

He stated that the technicians would wear blue work uniforms bearing the company logo. He also supplied data on the supposed workers.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday a man in a blue work uniform came and said that he was the worker they were waiting for.

After checking his data, the bank employees opened the door and he began looking around the rooms and measuring. Then he turned towards the safe. When he arrived he pulled a pistol out of his case, threatened the employees (including the informant, as will become clear later), tied their hands and feet and asked for the code to open the safe. The thief threatened to kill them so the informant already had an excuse to reveal the safe's combination in front of his colleagues.

Then the offender pulled three large bags out of his tool case, put the money in and after locking up the three bank employees in their rooms, he left the airport like a gentleman - in a taxi.

Subsequently, the police determined that the perpetrator did not act alone.

This morning the bank informant was found who had submitted the information to the thieves.

According to sources, it was a 25-year-old employee of that branch, who was present at the robbery as an alleged hostage along with his colleagues. He was the one who had told the thief both codes in order to open the safe.

The 25-year-old employee is a close relative to one of those responsible for the bank security, but for whom there is no evidence that he participated in the robbery.

Officers found the trail of the 25-year-old thanks to the testimony of an Albanian, one of those arrested last night in Exarchia. According to police, he is the thief who stole more than 1 million Euros.

The Albanian is a security guard in nightclubs, who had met the 25-year-old when he worked in a bar. In addition to the three detainees yesterday, today the 25-year-old bank employee was also arrested together with one more person.

According to reports the police located the apartment in Exarchia thanks to the testimony of the taxi driver who took the thief from the airport, as well as from other details from the investigation.
